Paula Oakes, violin, graduated from the Ithaca College School of Music (Magna Cum Laude) where she studied violin with Linda Case and chamber music with Einar Holm. Subsequent to graduation Paula continued her studies with Burton Kaplan in New York City. At that time Paula won a postion with the Albany Symphony which during her tenure made numerous recordings of contemporary music. While in Albany, she also performed with the St. Cecilia Chamber Orchestra sometimes serving as concertmaster and soloist, and substituted with the Syracuse Symphony and the Rochester Philharmonic.
Since 1998 Paula has lived in the Boston area freelancing on both violin and piano. Currently Paula performs with the Boston Ballet Orchestra, the Boston Landmarks Orchestra as Principal Second Violin, the Portland Symphony, and is Concertmaster of the National Lyric opera Orchestra. This past summer Paula appeared as a soloist with the Boston Landmarks Orchestra in Mozart's Serenata Notturna.
When not performing, Paula teaches violin and piano in the extension program in the Wellesley Public Schools and devotes time to her extensive flower gardens.
